DESIGN CHALLENGE
Use dynamic type, image, and message in a visually engaging way to design two 18” x 28” promotional posters for the Modern Chair Exhibit at the Palm Springs Architecture and Design Center. These should create excitement for the museum exhibit. Think of the user experience for this target audience.
CREATIVE SOLUTION
These typographic posters serve as a window into the exhibit using imagery of the chairs on display, easy to read details, and a link to the website to learn more. The hierarchy allows the user to easily identify what the exhibit is about, where and when they can visit, who was behind the curation and what they can expect to see there. Each poster takes a different approach, yet still achieves the desired end result.
The series of practice tests allowed for a strong direction and clear “star of the show” when it came to the design of the title for the posters. The tests began with an exploration of alignment working within the same point size. The next exploration was hierarchy, allowing for differences in scale to represent different levels of priority in information. Finally, an exploration in extreme scale, using the previous tests as a starting point. These practice tests were a powerful exercise in presenting the same message in a variety of ways.
